We all have heard about the Columbian Exchange. In fact, it helped us become who were are today. Even though we don't "trade" anymore, we still are living the "Columbian Exchange Life"! Topic? What are some positive and negative effects on the Columbian Exchange. Well, I sure know some positive ones!!! People all throughout the world could get and receive goods they couldn't grow or produce. For instance, if you lived in Greenland (where its freezing!) you could trade with other places in the world that had animal skins for warmth or, good sturdy wood for houses and fires. Without the exchange, many people could've died, and we might not be here today! Wow, that's C-R-A-Z-Y! A negative effect was disease. Like the Black Death, animals could be transferred to other lands and start diseases which would most likely... kill people. With the Black Death thousands of millions of people died and with more/different animals getting on the ships to trade, lots of lives could be lost with the Columbian Exchange.
The Columbian Exchange was a big deal for historians. They started to understand how things happened and got over to America and other places in the world. Without the Columbian Exchange...life would be pretty tricky for us today. I am very grateful for the Columbian Exchange; and even though we don't realize it...it has a HUGE impact on our life.
