Physical Education With Mr. Brown
Physical Education with Mr. Brown is very fun because of who teaches it... Mr. Brown! Mr. Brown is one of the best teachers at Computech and really makes any type of exercise fun! P.E. is a class that can be related to very few but is probably most related to science. This class is related to my science class because your body has bones and tendons and lots of other parts that are important to keep healthy. I normally learn most of my body parts in science where I study them but in P.E. Mr. Brown helps us to understand what and what not to do when exercising. I really like this class and can't wait to see what unit we will work on next!
Shotokon
Towards the middle of third quarter in P.E., my class started Shotokan. Shotokan can be recognized as karate a lot but its not. Shtokan is self-defense and is used for protection. Although it might not be the most powerful of an impact, Mr. Brown's students were required to learn a 20-step routine involving punches, blocks, and kicks. Each student had a partner with a sheet explaining what their partner needed to work on when performing. I really enjoyed Shtokan and hope one day to learn it more.
Dance
If there has been one really awkward unit in P.E, it would so be dance. Everyone was nervous though. After all, we had just gotten off of Thanksgiving vacation so of course everyone was going to freak out. At first we learned a dance I believe is called Electric Slide. It was sort of nerve racking standing in the front, but I was okay. Thankfully, the Electric Slide was a one-man-show, so I wouldn't need a partner. Then, things got c-r-a-z-y!!! We learned the Salsa!!! It was so embarrassing! I absolutely hated it! We needed partners for this dance; and it was really confusing! After a while, though, people understood the dance more. So it was easier. After we learned the Salsa, we learned the Waltz. That was probably the hardest dance out of all of the ones my class learned. The steps were confusing, and when I thought I understood or got it, I really didn't! Just like the Salsa though, it just took a while for everyone to get it. Right now, we are learning about a dance called "Swing." It's really fun, and I like it. Sometimes, it gets a little weird when I dance with tall guys because of their height. Today, December 11, Mr. Brown announced that to celebrate Friendship day on Thursday, December 13, everyone was required to bring a flower! Even the girls! They, who brought flowers would need to silently ask someone to be their dance partner. Those who didn't bring a flower lost points. The way Mr. Brown wants us to ask would be to hold out the flower, and see if they took it (yes) or see if the said nicely that they were a busy or would need to think about it (no.) I didn't really like this part of dance that's for sure!
Fitness Day
If there is one thing I absolutely hate about P.E., it sure is fitness day. Fitness day is normally once a month and is so.... I don't even know how to describe it. A few days ago in P.E. we ran a mile. We had a substitute so he told us to run a mile and then we could have "free-play." I finshed 1st with 6 minutes and 30 seconds! I was so happy! Anyways, nobody thought that we were doing a mile instead of having a fitness day! Today Mr. Brown announced that since we ran a mile the other day, we wouldn't have to do a fitness day! Everyone was so happy, including me! It is so nice to know that when you work hard and reach a goal or just accomplish something you never thought you could do! Now, I love November 2012! NO FITNESS DAY!
Badminton
In my P.E. class, we are focusing on a unit on Badminton. Badminton was first found in Greece just about two-thousand years ago. Badminton soon found its way over to England and was played over in Europe. In Europe, people played with a paddle and a feather. People tried to keep the feather in the air by using the paddle. Now, we see Badminton in the Olympics. Badminton is often confused with tennis. One difference, is in tennis, a ball is used and in Badminton, a "birdie" or "shuttle cock" is used. Badminton is a fun sport. In the beginning, I thought it was going to be one boring unit; but instead, I'm having a blast!
